Special Day

The air outside's near freezing cold
just a couple stars seem to shine.
Inside the line shack a fire
gives off the scent of pine.

Pretty close, a cowboy sleeps
all safely bundled up.
Lost in a dream of his favorite horse
like it was a new born pup

They sweep across the range land
like the ride won't ever end.
Two critters joined in feeling
kindred spirits to the wind.

But soon the dawn cracks
and cold wakes up the hand
who sits up quick to stoke the fire
cause he rides for the brand.

Today there's something different
coursing through the air
he pauses, thinks of family
for a moment, wishes he was there.

Then says out loud, to just himself
"Got to get on my way.
Me and my pony gonna find us a tree
this here Christmas day."
