Ridin' Tall

All my life there's been a cowboy riding tall against the sky
No matter where I go I see him "comin' through the rye"
When we was just a kid he was on the silver screen
Or jumping off the pages of a book where I'd just been

But the real life cowboys was around me purty close
Startin' with my grandad's who rode the trails they chose
One was born up north where the Sioux winds blow all day
Traveling to preach the word of God the Christian way

My other pap came out of Kansas ridin' cross the wheat
He liked to fish the streams while restin' off his seat
They worked the ranges where folks lived hard lives
I only got to know them later on with their wives

Then was my dad who cowboyed singin' a western song
He lived in California with my ma til he was gone
But the best hand ever made was my dear brother Mike
If you don't get a fair shake he'll go out with you on strike

Of course the cowboy still rides tall against the sky
Each one is just a little different in their cowboy try
But if you stack them all together they make a purty sight
One hell of a combination when it comes to doin' right
