North of El Fuego

North of El Fuego lives Senor Mataron
On a ranch surrounded by trees
There he tends to his horses and cattle
While the ocean sends off a breeze

Senor Mataron has some children
Who learned all their ranching skills
By watching their father and uncles
Embracing the rough rides and spills

But truly it was their mother
A ranching horsewoman true
Who gave them the heart to endure
When the work was no longer new

with spirit and pride they work
Stopping to pray once a day
For guidance on how to succeed
Even when they might lose their way

Senor Mataron sometimes sheds a tear
As he thinks of his life on the ranch
his father and mother passed on to him
that now gives his children their chance

but he laughs when he thinks of the past
when everyone thought it was gone
due to money or health or a storm
cause he's still here to meet each dawn

North of El Fuego lives Senor Mataron
On a ranch surrounded by trees
There he tends to his horses and cattle
While the ocean sends off a breeze
