My Black Horse

Randy Dandy Bob was big as most men that he met
But twice as ornery as the roughest when they get all wet
He rode a black horse that he'd won from a kid called Single Jim
N' poor old Jim was angry bout losin' that horse to him

See Single Jim had bought that horse from his uncle Charlie O.
And just got careless on a bet he'd made with Bob you know
N' every time they'd pass in town Bob would razz poor Jim
So Jim decided to hatch a plan with the help of Slippery Slim

They figured that they'd get Dandy Bob in a game of chance
Over at uncle Charley's' bar called the "Greenhorn Dance"
Where Single Jim and Slippery Slim would rig the deck of cards
And walk away with the horse like two old well greased pards

Of course unbeknownst to them their plan was overheard
Cause they tended to talk about it like a preacher with the word
It was little Ready Teddy who listened in one night
Sittin' at the very table as they talked about Bobs' plight

And Teddy rode out to see Bob at his place when the moon was high
But Bob was drunk and shot young TeddyÉ causin' him to die
And Randy Dandy Bob got locked up in the jail to go on trial
While Jim and Slippery Slim cursed and stood in single file

To get into the courthouse and watch the trial begin
They wondered if he'd hang cause killin' is a sin
sure enough when it was o'er Bob was gonna swing
but he still laughed at Single Jim and said "Don't that sting?"

cause Bob had give the horse to his close friend Happy Bill
who gave a proper farewell to old Bob up on Boothill
but Single Jim still sulked about the black horse everyday
hopin' him and Slippery Slim could make some kind of play

but Happy Bill did not gamble nor make the foolish bet
he knew the story  of Single Jim although they'd never met
and one day he came to town with the black tied to his wagon
gave the horse to Jim and told him I never liked old Bobby's braggin'
