Last Grizz

Back in 1916 I got a chance at fame.
LA county, out near Sunland
I shot a bear, by name
a Grizzly, but not just any one
the last that ever came
to Southern California.

'Cause I shot and killed the same
got my picture in the paper.
The bear now lying tame
my foot placed right upon him.

Wild country was the blame
a thing like that can't come too close
like a moth drawn to a flame
it will get burned by people
that fear the wild game.

So remember me, Cornelius Johnson
I did this with no shame.

As a postscript to this story
the truth it finally came
that bear escaped the LA zoo
turning CJ's trophy lame.
