In No Rush to fly

Looking at a tree far off
a bird was perched up high
Comfy on a tender branch
in no rush to fly

It sent a scornful glance to me
where on the ground I lie
after being dropped off
like a fresh cow pie

a horse I had been riding
was nibbling grass nearby
glancing at me casually
like to say "I don't know why."

whatever had spooked him
wasn't seen by my good eye
so I had disembarked on cue
and hit hard enough to cry

but after sucking in some wind
I made this smart reply
"If you think that was funny,
just wait till I really try!"
