- Good Idea
-
- Wilbur won't soon forget the day
he lost his boot
- Told the boys he was goin' to the
river for a hoot
- He peeled off his clothes for a
swim and a float
- Where he could pretend he was kind
of a boat
-
- Wilbur got to floatin', spittin'
and splashin'
- Tryin' his best to swim in
champeen fashion
- Then he spied a branch,
hangin' out from a tree
- "now there's some fun to
have, what a great idee."
-
- so he climbed up high and sat
there for a spell
- looking around he stood up and
very nearly fell
- then he looked at the branch and
sized it for strength
- figured it would hold and gauged
it for length
-
- then Wilbur realized he was in
quite a pickle
- he was naked except for boots, n
hat and something started to tickle
- so he figured fore he took the
plunge he'd drop off his boots
- then plumb forgot to do it as he
thought of diving routes
-
- he hunkered down real
careful, hanging tight from the limb
- inching out he wondered why he'd
had this particular whim
- what a picture he would make for
the folks in town
- "Boots, hat and breeze, what a way
to drown!"
-
- "Boots! he thought, Oh no, why did
I leave them on?
- Maybe if I kick my feet I can
loosen one."
- So he prodded at each boot while
hanging up on high
- At last one heel popped loose then
he tried to make it fly
-
- Then CRACK! and he gulped, choking
down his gum
- As his loose boot fell to water
and bubbled to the bottom
- Up there things was different, not
so neat anymore
- So he turned and shimmied back,
just too late beforeÉ
-
- Branch, Wilbur and one boot, swan
dived head first
- Then gasping to the surface he
propelled up with a burst
- Grabbed his hat still floating and
headed for the shore
- To get his clothes on and forget
about swimming anymore
-
- Well, he got back to the bunkhouse
hoppin' in on one boot
- The boys looked up and hee-hawed
at this wild wet galoot
- Then one asked most politely "Did
you leave your boot somewhere?"
- Wilbur blushed and hollered back
"Oh, I got another pair
