Cowboy Christmas Light

Twinkling stars overhead seemed to whisper
a tune that Mike heard every year.

Standing next to his horse he remembered
it was one about Christmas cheer.

Shiverin' some 'gainst the cold
took a pull on his hat, and looked East.

There years ago he had sat
on his kid's bunk, awaitin' the feast.

Sights, sounds and food
home made by his family each Christmas.

Tamales, tinsel and laughter
an' old granny makin' a fuss.

Then he turned to the west
and boarded his mount.

The bag he held was nigh heavy
with gifts he knew would sure count.

Something each could hold onto
as they gazed at a star in the night

guiding them into the new year
like a Cowboy Christmas light.
