Caught

The mountains around were clear 'gainst the sky
clouds hung in blue bright filled my eye.

Heat buzzed from the land like an afternoon fly
I was looking for water, my canteen was dry.

My horse had dropped me like a hot potato pie.
I was afoot in the desert and had to try.

Then I froze 'cause I heard a snake rattling close by.
He was big and I figured I just might die.

Then a shot rang out, hit him in the eye.
A lawman name of Brisco County had rode up on the sly.

He said, "You best be careful, and please don't deny
I been trailin' you for days and now you're my guy."

So off I went to do my time, that's no lie.
It darn near made my wife shed a tear, or cry.
